How to Beat Spring Break FOMO

16.04.23

When your friends are all taking exotic vacations over spring break and — worse — posting about it on social media, you may start to suffer from FOMO: fear of missing out. However, even if you’re staying in your college town over spring break, there are ways to have fun and stop feeling like you’re missing out. Here are some tips for enjoying your time off no matter where you are.

1. Treat Yourself to a Fancy Meal

Finally visit a new restaurant everyone has been raving about or one that caught your eye a long time ago but you haven’t yet visited. It doesn’t even have to be one that’s particularly fancy — if you and a few friends dress for the occasion, it’s sure to feel special.

2. Prepare a Three-Course Dinner

If eating out will stretch your budget too far, prepare a delicious meal yourself. Research recipes and spend a few hours cooking a full three courses. If this sounds like too much effort when you’ll be the only one who will appreciate your hard work, invite a friend to join you for dinner.

3. Do Some Discount Shopping

Take a shopping trip to buy clothing for the spring weather, school supplies, and anything else you need. Find outlets to purchase items at a discounted rate to avoid spending too much.

4. Go to a Concert

Find out if any bands you like are visiting the area over the spring break. If you want to save money, you could see a cover band or enjoy some live music at a local establishment.

5. Host a Paint Party

Purchase some basic supplies and invite friends over to your apartment for a paint night. It’s a unique way to have fun and relaxing to let the colours flow, even if you’re not much of an artist.

6. Take Photos

Go for a nature walk with the goal of taking beautiful spring shots. If you bring a friend along with you, take pictures of each other as well to turn the outing into a photo shoot.

7. Be a Tourist in Your City

Choose some tourist spots in your city you haven’t been to yet and pretend you’re a tourist. For instance, you could visit a museum, zoo, or aquarium.

8. Enjoy Some Winter Sports While You Still Can

If you still have opportunities to go skating or cross-country skiing, take advantage of them now. Soon, the warm weather will mean these activities are no longer possible.

9. Read for Pleasure

Not everything you do to beat FOMO needs to be thrilling. Taking the time to relax by catching up on some reading could be just what you need to recuperate from an exhausting semester.

One more way you can make spring break special is to prepare to move into premier student housing. Use your free time to search for rooms for rent. Barrie students can look no further than the housing community at Arcadian Students. Your friends will envy the great onsite amenities, which include an outdoor grill and fire pit, basketball half court, and fitness center. Contact us for a lease that suits your needs.
